 -About This Course
This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to feed, water and care for a range of companion animals in an efficient and humane manner. You will learn about animal behaviour and health, genetics, nutrition and anatomy, and the physiology of animals. You will also learn skills to assist customer with animal selection, handle and transport companion animals, to carry out breeding procedures, to operate the retail equipment and to follow workplace safety procedures.

Can you talk to the animals? Do you find it hard to resist a puppy or a kitten? This qualification goes into depth about animal behaviour, breeding, and genetics, nutrition, anatomy and physiology of animals. Learn how to choose the right pet, animal handling and transportation, breeding and more.

Australians love their animals and many diverse career opportunities exist in areas involved with their care. For people who would like to work in this rewarding field, the Certificate III in Companion Animal Services could be a great place to start.

Polytechnic West is the only TAFE College in the State that offers training in animal studies. Training facilities include a fully equipped operating veterinary clinic and surgery on Bentley Campus where you can gain hands on experience dealing with animals and customers. The clinic is open for business three times a week and is staffed by a visiting practising vet. Vet nursing students assist in handling and caring for animals during these consultation sessions for hands-on experience.
